- No heat: the drum turns, but the air and clothing remain cold.
- Weak or intermittent heat: the dryer warms briefly, then cools or shuts down.
- Long drying times: heat is present, but moisture is not leaving the drum efficiently.
- Overheating: the cabinet, clothing, or laundry room becomes unusually hot.

Safe checks before scheduling dryer repair
Make sure the selected cycle is not Air Fluff, No Heat, or a low-temperature setting. Clean the lint screen, check that the flexible vent behind the dryer is not crushed, and look at the exterior vent hood while the dryer runs. The exterior flap should open and release a steady stream of air.
For an electric dryer, verify the two-pole breaker is fully set. Some electric dryers can tumble when part of the 240-volt supply is interrupted while the heating circuit receives no power. Reset the breaker once only if it can be done safely. If it trips again, stop and schedule professional service.
For a gas dryer, do not loosen or move the gas connection. If you smell gas, leave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services as appropriate. Appliance diagnosis should begin only after the area is safe.

A long-dry complaint often involves restricted airflow, but it can also occur when the heat cycles off too soon or the moisture-sensing system does not read the load correctly.
Replacing a thermal fuse without finding out why it opened is not a complete repair. A fuse may react to restricted airflow, a failed thermostat, a heater that is shorted, or heat building where it should not. Stop the dryer immediately if you smell burning, see smoke, notice scorching, hear metal scraping, find melted wiring or plastic, repeatedly trip the breaker, or see the cabinet become unusually hot. Continued use can damage additional components and create a safety concern.
Do not keep restarting a dryer that shuts down from heat. The shutdown may be protecting the motor or appliance from a condition that needs diagnosis.
